Habitat - Indoor :: Eating Decorations

My 6" RES is biting on the fake grass in his tank.
I doubt he's ingested any YET, as there's nothing missing... but I caught him today trying his hardest to get a chunk out.

I noticed it a few days after I got him about a week ago. There were chew marks on the plastic grass, but I never saw him in the act until now. I thought maybe he tried it, realized it was fake and gave up... or he just kept missing his feeder fish. (He's really slow.)

But yeah, looks like he's still trying...

I figure if he persists, I'm gonna have to remove it. And that would leave me with large rocks as my only option for decorations.

Some turtles are just intent on destroying their habitat. Does he get lettuce and other greens? Is it possible there's bits of food are trapped among the grass?

As you say, keep an eye on him, and if he persists, you should take it out.

It's not that your RES is trying to "destroy" it's habitat, RES just naturally eat some aquatic plants, I would take out the fake plants, and put some aquatic plants in the tank,

Water Lilies, Water Hyacinth, Duckweed, Anacharis, Water Lettuce, Water Fern, Pondweed, Water starwort, Hornwort, Water milfoil, and Frogbit, are great for RES
