Habitat - Indoor :: tank question

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Ok yesterday I went to Petsmart to kill some time on my lunch break. I noticed that they had two sections of tanks some labled for fish others for reptiles. What the heck is the difference. Couldn't I just use a 55 gal aquarium to house a turtle? Only thing I could think of was the reptile one wasn't sealed like an aquarium. So, are there any difference?

Ya, the reptile ones are not meant to hold water. they don't have as thick of glass and aren't sealed as well.

They might hold water up to a certain level, but their not meant to. Too much water and they could blow!

A regular 55 gallon is much better for a turtle anyhow :)

Yeah get the aquarium. The glass is thinner on the reptile tanks and even if they hold for a while the weight of the water is stress the tank is not built to hold.

Aquariums are meant to hold water, terrariums (reptile tanks) are meant to hold substrate, decoration, the animal, and air. They're very flimsy and won't hold water for very long without busting. Spend the extra money and get the aquarium.

I watching these how-to video on how to set up a turtle tank and they used one of them and filled it up halfway...they even put gravel at the bottom to! and no uvb. The turtle was about 6-7 inches.
