Habitat - Indoor :: yet another sand question

I have a question to add to the sand novel. Since I live in the Land of Sand, I was wondering if I could use well washed desert sand. I could heat it in the oven to kill any live organisms prior to washing.

I don't see why not, but i would boil it rather than bake it.

hey guys i just put in some sand in the tank today, should i turn the filter on or leave it off till the water clears up?
