Habitat - Indoor :: Can I clean the sand this way?

Since it's time to clean out my tank, it's been a month, what I was thinking is that if I take everything out of the tank except for the water and sand, stir it up and then take the water out, then fill it up about halfway, stir it up again, and then drain and fill it back up to normal. Because if not, I would have to go outside, hold the tank upside down on an angle over a bucket to get the sand out of the tank, and that would be a pain.

i changed the water in my tank earlier today. all i do is just suck the water out and replace it

I just kick up the water above the sand and all the junk will float above the sand so I catch it with a brine shrimp net (very, very small holes), worked so far for me.

What I do once a month is remove all the water. I grab a friend or family member to help me take the tank outside and spray the sand with a hose until the water runs clear. Just to get it really clean so it's not all nasty every time you do water changes. Also while you're cleaning the sand run a fishnet through it to catch any floating debris and what not. It sounds ridiculous but trust me you're going to be soooo happy with the results!
