Habitat - Indoor :: Above tank basking area, and the turtles who use it

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Thu Jul 24, 2008 3:32 pm   Above tank basking area, and the turtles who use it

Someone asked to see the above tank basking area for my tank. It is one of those acrylic platform (Kordon) ramps with the suction cups taken out and put in the opposite way so it will stick to the outside of the tank and hang in. They both use it and sometimes stack on each other for the best sun :D ! The pictures were taken with my cell phone :( , I keep forgetting to take my camera in to school.

Here is my setup again

An interesting use of inexpensive materials to maximize the tank space.

However, just from my estimates, it looks like your turtles are much too large for the tank and certainly for that one little basking area for both of them. How big are they and what is the size of the tank? If they become too big with a scarcity of resources, aggression is inevitable.

I like the basking area. Gives me an idea on how to create one.

The tank is small, but they share it well. It is a 75 gallon, and they have lived together for 10 years, in the same tank. As far as the basking area, it works well, they both stack together up there.

Wow, ten years with no problems? That's great. How big are they? I'd say you should definitely upgrade them, or maybe make a second basking area so they don't have to share. Ten years? Wow!

I had them both when I was a sophomore in high school, and if the opportunity comes around, I will definately try to obtain a larger aquarium. Thanks for the input :)
