Habitat - Indoor :: Real plants...

My fiance just called and I believe we are to the point where we can start decorating the "Estate de Bean." Inside his tank will be mostly fake plants that are good and sturdy. But I designed the decking of the habitat to have extra places for real potted plants to grow outside the water and "spruce it up."

My question is, is there any type of plant that is a blatent health risk? One of the plants might be a cheap Ivy and some of it's branches may be allowed to "float" or stream across the top of the water. Others will be close to the edge and I'm sure curious or hungry turtle nibbles are going to happen.

The plants will be secured so he won't be able to grab a branch and drag the thing into the water.

Wonder if any of those aquatic plants would grow in pots. Didn't see anything there about conventional plants outside of the water.

There's some links at the bottom with info on poisonous plants. A lot of common houseplants are mildly poisonous, pothos is one common vining plant that's dangerous.

Guess we need to go to the garden center, browse for what would look good and what we want, and then check to see if it's on the list.

English Ivy was there as well. I looked but didnt find African violets. They and some other related plants might work. They also like high humidity so it could be a good match for close to the tank.
