my little brother's stepdad(aka my dad's enemy for family reasons) he is selling me a 55 gal tank with the wood stand with cabinet looks something like this http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/for/701366454.html for 50$ (does'nt include water heater filter etc.) But here in philly you can't beat that price because I saw a 20 gal in petco for $249.00. He does'nt want to buy it because is my lil brother's stepdad and you know how that gets anyways I really wanna buy it because I think it will make a great home for my baby RES. Right now she lives in something like this http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previe ... 120586.JPG . Any Ideas in convincing him?

Keep checking craigslist. I live in the Philly area as well and there are always complete set ups for real cheap. Just gotta be patient.

In regards to your dad, My suggestion would be to show him the main site and the requirements needed. If that doesnt work perhaps you can get a middleman to get the tank from your stepdad for you and "pretend" you bought it from them.

jroc, I know it's hard to accept, but it's best not to stir family matters. They don't want to hurt you, and people can be petty. I doubt your father will ever give in due to personal reasons. Look into seeing if your mother (I'm assuming she's still around?) can help facilitate the purchase, but if not, I would keep looking at garage sales and Craigslist for the same type of deal.

If he would never know, perhaps you can ask a 3rd party to look into it? Petco/Petsmart do have sales on tanks under 60 gallons ($1 per 1 gallon)... just wait a little and be patient (and start saving).
