Habitat - Indoor :: Awesome Craigslist Find- 125 Gallon???

I found this tank today on Craigslist. She said it's 125 gallons, but it looks like a 90 gallon to me. Her dimensions come out to 116 gallons. What do you think? No matter what, $125 is a good price... Just need to get a stand.

I agree, the dimensions come out to like 115 gallons. But what's 10 gallons for $125! Just make sure it holds water before you agree to buy it, just in case.

This was her response to my questions:

Yeah, it is on a desk right now, I had a lizard in it. I just made a custom cage for my lizard so I no longer need this! I just remeasured it is definitely 4 ft. It is just shorter and taller than most. There are some nicks in it but no cracks. Last I know it held water. This is just for the glass tank. It is REALLLLLYYYYY heavy, I had 3 grown, BIG men lifting and they said it was extremely heavy. Great tank for the price! I was going to make an exotic terrarium in it but I decided I'd rather have the space.

How thick is the glass? How long was it filled with water and what was kept in there? Was it filled to the top?

She had a lizard in there. I don't think it ever held water, so I'd have to ask her to fill it up. I wanted to make sure I could get a stand and all before I had her do it.

By this website (http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/tipsa ... nksize.htm), the total weight will be around 1400 lbs, so you'll need a serious stand that can handle that kind of weight. With getting such a deal on the tank, you might want to look into actual aquarium stores for a reliable stand.

Here in Philadelphia they have a lot of flee markets in the area. Im willing to spend all the amout of money I need for my baby RES but I decided to go one to get supplies that I might need(such as stands and decorations). Well while I was looking around I found a 10 gallon tank with water heater and filter for only 8 dollars. I din't buy it because I wanted a bigger tank. After I left my friend told me that he saw a guy with a 135 gallon tank with the accesories(water heater, filter, and rocks , nets etc. for 50 dollars. The only question I have is if those tanks are ok and if they are safe to buy because they are cheap and im not sure if they are broken somehow. As I said im willing to spend money but thats real cheap and I can save a lot of money. Any ADVICE??? thanx in advance

You will get more replies to your questions if you start a separate thread.

Tanks like you are seeing in flea markets are that cheap because they want to make a quick sale and are willing to sacrifice. If they are selling it at the flea market it doesn't mean anything is necessarily wrong with it, just that they need to get rid of it fast.

I wouldn't really trust any used filtration systems though.

Good points Chris. For glass tanks, they can be resealed if the silicone is damaged. Chips and cracks are a bad sign and those planes should be replaced, which is usually not an easy option.

You also need to make sure that it is an aquarium and not a reptile tank. Those are not designed to be filled with water.

I would avoid used filters, decorations and bulbs. Well, the filter would need to look brand spankin' new and I would definitely change out the media and have the filter disinfected.
