If one wanted to just feed in the "living" tank, what could anyone suggest as a filtering system to keep from having to change the water every four days or so? Just a pondering thought.

Depends on the size of your tank.
A good guideline is a filter that pumps 5x the gallons of your tank.
So a 50 gallon tank would be good with a filter that pumps 250 gph (gallons per hour)

I feed Sylar in his "living" tank now. I have a really powerful filter now, but another thing I do that I think helps keep the water clean is that I handfeed him. It only takes an extra few minutes and it is our "bonding time". Every day I feed him one or two pellets at a time until he has eaten his ration for the day. This way I know exactly what he has eaten and there are no extra pellets flaoting around. The added bonus here is I would know right away if he ever went off his food.
