I've been advised that the long fluorescent tubes are preferred to compact fluorescents for uvb, and since it's about time to replace the bulbs in most of my turtles tanks, I'm making the switch. But I'm having a heck of a time finding fixtures for that kind of bulb that will work. I went to home depot and lowe's and they no longer carry anything that will work. I'm looking to be able to lay the fixture across the top of the tank without mounting it to anything, and the way the ones I've found are designed, the bulbs just stick out from the fixture, there's no reflector or casing or anything. What do you guys use? Links to specific products would be great, but general advise is also appreciated. We were thinking about getting regular aquarium hood lamps, is there any reason that those wouldn't work?

That's a tough question but I think most use the aquarium hood.
