Hi. Im currently on the market for a new tank, either 75 gallon or 125 gallon for my 3" RES Frank, and my 2.5" YBS Clyde. I was wondering if i need to use an aquarium stand due to the weight of the water, or if a sturdy dresser or desk would be fine to use?
Any input would be great.
Thanks!

For even a 75 gal, I don't think you'll be able to find a dresser or desk that is strong enough., since it's 600+ lbs of water.

You can always build a stand. I've got one (hopefully soon to be two) made out of 4x4s. There's always the cheap and easy version two - cement blocks with a piece of plywood on top and beneath.

I would make one...

I almost lost two dressers under a 30gallon tank which wasnt even filled up all the way...

I've got my 40 gallon tank that's filled probably 30 gallons on a (cheap-looking) desk and it's holding up fine. I'd definitely test it before putting the aquarium on it, like get four people to sit on it. I don't think a dresser is meant to take that kind of weight, but some tv stands probably can handle some good weight, or a solid desk. But I'd definitely get some people to sit on anything before you have 75-125 gallons of water on the floor! Look on Craigslist or your local paper since it's spring cleaning, sometimes people are getting rid of aquarium stands.
