Habitat - Indoor :: What aquatic plants do you recommend?

I'm currently looking at live aquatic plants for my 55 gal tank. I don't want to have to deal with dirt or messy plants.

Are there any plants that you've had a lot of success with?

Is this for your turtle tank? Pretty much any plant is most likely going to get ripped to shreds in a turtle tank, so you should stick with cheap plants. Anacharis is a favorite among turtles, and it's cheap. Hornwort is cheap too, and my turtle doesn't like it as much, so he destroys it slower.

well, like octopusgirl8 said, your turtle will rip up any live plants you put in the tank.

I feed my turtle Anacharis quite a lot as his main veggie and he tears up a 3-4" piece up in about half an hour. I imagine if I put the whole plant in there I would have a tank full of Anacharis leaves by the next morning.

I recommend some fake plants, yes they can look fake, but if you invest in a little more money for the fake plant, you can get some very realistic ones. I go for the fake plants and feed him the naturals. It cost more in the beginning, But I enjoy the way the tank looks without leaves everywhere.

Thanks! I just thought that a real plant would be good for the turtle's environment on top of being food. I'll probably get some fake plants instead.
