Habitat - Indoor :: Heater Guard...where to order or how to make?

Hello everyone. I must be as dense as a black hole, 'cause I can not find a heater guard online for a Jager 200 watt heater. I don't mind making one, if someone can give me some parameters. Thanks for your help.

Tronic makes heater guards. Try googling Tronic Heater Guards and see what pops up.

If you can get it where you are, a very good brand of heater is a stealth. When your Jager passes away, you might look into one. A Stealth is plastic so it won't shatter like a glass heater.

You can make a heater guard from a piece of pvc pipe with holes drilled in it to allow water to circulate. Be sure to allow for plenty of circulation.

However, turtles don't get burned by submerged heaters. You can feel for yourself - the heat dissipates so rapidly in water that it isn't a problem. There is, however, a risk of a glass heater breaking or shattering if it's hot and touched by cool water or if it's bitten by a frisky turtle. A heater guard would help protect against this.

Thank you! The Jager is brand new, so hopefully will last for a while. Although, I am seriously considering getting a Stealth and keeping the Jager as back-up. I am a little paranoid about having spares of critical equipment since there isn't an easy way to replace anything very fast. My main concern is the glass breaking. My turtle isn't particularly frisky, but one never knows what he might get into his head to do. I did a search for the Tronic heaters,and found one...but, PVC is available, and I have a flexshaft which would make short work of the job, so I think I'll give it a shot. I hope all of that was intelligible...it's 1:30 a.m. and my tireds are hanging out!

Stealth heaters are awesome & have been a real life-saver for my big adult RES. My big girl is 9" long & very thick. She can be a real bulldozer & has broken 2 of the glass tube heaters I have had for her in the past. Stealth is the only heater that stands up to her constant banging against things in her tank.

Thanks, I have one ordered...should be here in a couple of weeks, depending on Customs. I'll use the Jager in Mean Bob's tank.

evlock, I'm currently using two 200-watt Jager heaters and they're working wonderfully. I do have them in heater guards as a precaution because they're sitting at the bottom of the tank. The guards are Tronics; the Jager heaters are longer than Tronic heaters, so if you want to use them you'll need to buy two and use the middle sections from one of them to lengthen the guard. Or, you can make a guard from PVC pipe as was noted (I'm lazy and rather than spending time drilling holes preferred to buy them).
