Habitat - Indoor :: UVB bulb

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I'm confused on the right lighting fixture i should use for the turtles basking area. I have a 20 gallon tank with two baby sliders. I'm not sure what bulb i am using now, but i am sure it only prduces UVA rays. Would an MVB bulb be the answer, or is my tank to small? If so, what kind of UVB bulb would be good.

A MVB bulb would over heat such a small tank. With a tank that small you will need two lamps. One to get the basking area 10F warmer then the water(Heat bulb, you can use a stander house hold light bulb for this, just make sure you get the right temp.), and a UVB bulb(You have to go to the pet store for this one, MAKE SURE it says UVB ON THE BOX!!).

I hoped I cleared it up for you!

Nathan.

P.S. Once you get a 50 gallon tank or bigger you can switch over to just one bulb(MVB).

Most people suggest no more than a 26 Watt 5.0 UVB Bulb. I have a Repti Glo, they are about 14 bucks at pet smart.

Just be sure to get one rated for 5.0 UVB. 10.0 can be too strong, and the weaker ones aren't quite enough.
