Habitat - Indoor :: tank is geting cloudy unreasonably fast

alright i need some advice. i got a 40 gallon filter for my ten gallon tank and lately its been getting cloudy really fast i don't fully know what to do. i know ten gallons is a small size for two turtles still in the process of upgrading my tank. well any advice would be helpful.

It's possibly new tank syndrome. Try a 50% water change and give it a day or two and see if it continues. Also, make sure your filter isn't clogged or something.

It could just be that 10 gallons is way to small for two turtles and you're simply seeing the result of having too much turtle in too little water. There comes a point where no filter will be adequate if you don't have enough space to begin with.

well what kind of filter is it because when I first got my RESs I had them in a 20 gallon and the filter said it was a 40 gallon and within like 3 days I the water started turning green

This might help. Feed your turtle in a different tank, in a bowl(if they are still that small), or in small rubbermaid, tupperware container. Wait for them to poop before you put them back in. It ussually take 30-45 mins after they eat.

We had that issue for a while, too, and just counteracted it by getting a second filter. We have a Whisper and a Fluval and our water is gorgeous. They are configured in such a way that the Fluval is submerged and also becomes a resting area (we have a 55 gallon and two RES).

I also use that organic stuff that helps break down the turtle's droppings. The debris swirls around the tank and gets sucked into the filter(-s) in seconds. On rare occasions we get a "sludge" line on the glass at the water line. We just wipe it away.
