would it be okay if I put sand in my RESs basking area, its the kind of sand that you buy at petsmart thats really clean, just so she can have something soft to walk on not just hard wood lol

heres a pic of the basking area

You can do that. But just remember, there is a 100% chance that some of it is going to get dragged into the tank. So you'll have to clean it out of the tank at some point.
As for the wood, what kind is it? I think most wood would get warped because of all the moisture.

Please take note about carpeting. I put carpet on a ramp/basking area and one of my turtles began to eat the carpet and got constipated with it. I had to pull it out of his rear and he survived. Just something to think about.

Hey, instead of sand, I use specific-reptile sand at the pet store, which looks, feels and smells like sand, but is actually ground up calcium. So, it is completely harmless (maybe even benefitial) for consumption. Will not cause impaction and doesn't cloud up my water. Plus, I would imagine what dissolves in the water makes the water calcium rich, which is a plus too!
