Habitat - Indoor :: Above tank basking area pics

Here are some pics of the above tank basking area I built. The tank its self is still too small for my turtles but the above ground basking area will give them more space until i upgrade this summer. Also i have switch to an xp1 for filtration instead of that whisper hang on that is in the pics. I hope you enjoy the pics







Also i have covered the front of the basking area with some paper since my turts are still shy while basking in there new home, but i took it off for the pics

yeah if i had the confidence in my building ability i might try that but right now im excited to see if my built in nesting area will work. too bad i wont know til feb.

but thats a nice setup. did u build it from scratch?

It looks good. I think your heat lamp is probably a bit too high especially as the bulb gets older and weaker and put out less heat from a distance.

Lobo- Thanks and yes i did build it from scratch. I ripped 2x4 on a table saw to build the frame and cut plexiglass with a jigsaw for the walls.

Vtolds- Thanks as well and i was worried about the heat lamp position at first to, but the temp stays at just above 90 degrees (my water temp is at 78) and the turtles seem to like it. But i will make sure i monitor it as the bulb starts to get older (i just replaced it about a month ago).

Yes, i had to put up some paper across the front to give them a little more privacy but they bask like they have never basked before

The ramp is actually zip tied on, if you look at the second picture you can see it towards the front of the tank.

And i used a blowtorch attachment to a propane canister to bend the plexiglass. Worked wonders, just wear gloves
