Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have a 40 gallon tank and I've noticed quite a bit of foam builds up. I scoop it out but it seems to come back. It doesn't seem to just be a build up of bubbles. If I change 1/2 the water it stays clean for a bit. There are two 1 and 1/2 inch turtles in there. Is there a build up of something I ought to know about? Thanks!

How powerful is your filter?
Do you have a water testing kit? It's easy to do, most are simple dip tests and you just match the colors up to check your levels of nitrates, ammonia, etc.

It's a 300 GPH filter. I will look into the water tests and search for solutions as needed.

I don't have a water test kit, but i remember having around half my water surface covered in foam after setting up my new tank..I gave it some time (2 or 3 days) then it seemed to have disappeared..

I used to have this to. All you need to do is get a bubble disk, or a bubble wand. Look in the decoration part on this section and will have a picture of a bubble disk. http://www.redearslider.com/tank_considerations.html . The price range for the bubble disks are around 2-5 bucks on http://www.bigalsonline.com . But you also need to have tubing and a pump. That is how I solved my problem with the foam.

Try another brand of food mate as sometimes the food you give your RES
does sometimes cause foam.

Also try and lower your filter output flow and see if that stops the foam build up.
