Habitat - Indoor :: Upper Basking area, tons of questions

Today I have been trying to build a basking area that is out of the water. I just have no idea what to use for a ramp. What should I use? Also, for the sides, I dont have any plastic to use so do you think cardboard would be OK? Thanks! I will post pictures soon!

for a ramp you can use acrylic, you could bend it. Or you could do what I did and use one of those acrylic suction cup ones, I just screwed it on. Cardboard will get all yucky if it gets wet. and it might not be good for clamp lamps, but if you can keep it dry I guess it could work. Good luck

I made my above tank basking area out of wood & wire. For the ramp, I bought a large plexiglass ramp from Big Al's Online, and attached it to the bottom of my basking area w/plastic nuts & bolts.

My big design flaw was using wood for the bottom of the basking "box". I thought it would be Ok since it is above water, but it is showing water damage. Next year I am upgrading to a larger tank & will make another basking area using the same design, except I will use plexiglass for the bottom.

very cool. If you put some contact paper on the wood, it might be protected from water damage. just make sure the wood completly dries out before putting anything on it. Then It would become worse.
