I have another question... My sister's friend own's a red ear slider, but she also has fish in her tank with it, and they get along fine...

My question now is whether or not a painted turtles would try to eat a placostomus when the turtle gets bigger...

There's no guarantee. The painted may or may not eat the plecotomus. If you do try to intoduce the fish, make sure it's larger than the turtle and has a lot of hiding spots. Regardless, you should assume it will be eaten, don't get attached to it, any given day you could come home and the fish my be gone.

That's exactly right, your turtle could eat it and probably will. But they generally aren't good for turtles, so if you see the turtle nipping at it, put the pleco in another tank.

I bought a Pleco to keep the tank clean before I got my turtle. He grew pretty big, definitely bigger than the turtle, and they lived together just fine for about 6 months. Then one morning, I woke up to find a fish skull laying at the bottom of the tank. It was pretty disturbing, and I'd be wary of that if this is a younger person who owns it.

I recently decided that I would risk it again, since algae was building up in the tank rather quickly, despite my best efforts to clean it. I got a small one this time, since they're cheaper, and they're doing fine together so far. I know he may not last, but he's done a great job of cleaning the tank.
