Habitat - Indoor :: Filter Noise

I just moved my turtle into a 55 gallon tank and even tho the filter motor is quiet, the water coming back in is LOUD. It is in my daughters room so it has been unplugged at night for her to sleep. Any suggestions on how to quieten the water noise? My water level currently is about 5" from top of tank. Thanks.

I'm assuming that it's a "waterfall" or "hang-on" filter. If that's the case, you want to take a piece of fiber-glass or plexi-glass and silicone it to the lip of the filter. This will make it so the water runs down the "ramp" and falls into the water silently.

This is what I did..

I drilled 2 holes into the lid and 2 holes into a piece of acrylic. This had to be done slowly to ensure that the acrylic would not crack.



Filter not turned on. The water flow has warped the acrylic slightly making the filter slightly noisy.




Filter running. There is a few inches between the acrylic and water surface. I didn't want the acrylic submerged so there is still some noise but there is less splashing and less water evaporation this way.

This is what I did and it works for now but I am sound getting my new tank and filter and will have to make something new.

I took a small fish net $.99 at walmart I bent the handle so it would hang on the side of the tank. It slowed water down and made it much quieter.

It is my temp tank, but it work even better in my glass tank.

My filter looks like above pic, just larger (it has 2 cartridges, thus 2 sides filtering water) but for now I think I will try the fish net technique until i can get something more permanent. thanks so much for everyones help.
