hey guys i need some help in a couple of spots in my turtle tank there are some spots that collect junk and stay there that cant be filterd out because theres not enough flow under the water to move it all around so im wondering whats the best thing to use so i can have some water flowing underwater to move stuff around i was checking out powerheads but most say for use with undergravel filters? wich is the best to use can u send me some links and stuff and leave me some info thanks.

You could just get a net and fish it out. Or use a turkey baster. I use both. Only takes about a minute or so each day (and that's for the turtle and about a dozen fish).

NO undergravel filters. Untsmurf is right about the turkey baster.

If you have a large adult turtle (like mine....9" long) then you will just have to get out the waste with a fishnet. It doesn't get everything, but it does tidy up the tank enough.

You can try bubbles in those areas also. It will move the water around, and may help the circulation so that it doesn't collect there. You can move the bubbles around and see what area helps.

Powerheads are great for keeping the water stirred up and will help prevent stuff from settling on the bottom. But you don't want to create too much current in the turtle's tank since RES prefer calmer water, especially smaller ones. The other thing with powerheads is that you might still get some areas in the tank that won't get enough current where the sediment will just accumulate.

I am using a powerhead, I'm pretty sure it is the Aqua Clear 70 power head.

My tank is a 50 gallon bow front tank, on the left side is my Aqua Clear 110 Filter and the right side is the Aqua Clear 70 power head. The power head has no attatchments and is on the bottom of the tank.

Anytime my turtle poops on the right side the Power head would suck up the poop and break it up while blowing it to the left side where the Filter picks up the stuff.

Thats about it, I don't have any dead spots in my tank, I've only once in a while seen poop on the bottom of my tank but it disappears in the same day.

Cool! Sounds like it's working then. As long as the turtle is big enough not to get blown around by the powerhead or get stuck to the intake.

I use this. It's great. It's a little battery powered vacuum cleaner. I clean up the bottom of the tank every morning and it stays nice. And....it's currently on sale!

awesome spotsmama im going to order one of those monday only 7$!!!! usually what i do is take a small hose and siphon it to get water flowing and use it as a vacuum cleaner and let it all drop into a bucket then dump it and add some new water. thanks for the link. =P
