Habitat - Indoor :: Cheap aquarium decor?

I wanted to get something for the babies tank for them to hide in or for one to hide in to get away from other, whatever they want to do in there, but the pet stores want $15 for the cheapest thing! I think that is just too much to spend. Does anyone know of a website where they have cheaper things? I will look around but I like recommendations so I am sure I am not getting scammed or something

Ooh, thanks! Already I am seeing a huge price difference. Petsmart wanted like 7.99 for the one turtle figure and that site only wants 2.99. I will definitelly look around on there and see if they have anything I want.

A coffee cup makes a cute hideout for a little bitty one. And a big piece of PVC pipe is adorable.

I am trying to think of what would be small enough to fit in their tank but have big enough holes so they don't get stuck LOL.

This is a link to some photos of grey goose's setup. He's one of the master tank designers around here. He had three little bitty turtles in the tank with a flower pot, a vase, a coffee cup and a piece of pvc pipe.

For a small tank, a stuck-on aquarium wallpaper for the back of the tank can really add to the look of the tank!

Yea the PVC pipe is a great idea. You can get all kinds of "Y" and "T" fittings at the hardware store and make some neat toys for your babies to play in.

What 'hideouts' could you use for bigger turtles

I don't know of any. I was trying to find something for my big guys but anything big enough for them to hide in or swim through would take up too much of the swimming space so I just gave up on that idea. The bigger turtles don't seem to need a place to hide in as much anyway.

To answer the question about using a hideout for bigger turtles: I don't use a hideout for Sheba....she doesn't tend to stay underwater for too long, unless she is looking for food or pushing her plastic tree root around the tank (!). Every now & then she sleeps under it. See the thread:

I wish I would have read that about the PVC piping before I went to the store LOL. I bought them one of those plastic hamster hideouts. Its like and igloo type deal and it does not want to stay under water! I had to place a river rock and a few of the rocks from the tank ontop to weigh it down and ontop of that they are scared to go in it! I also ended up getting a background for them as well, it was on sale for $.98 per foot and it is pretty neat looking. It is the "anicent rome" background that is blue with the white ruines in it. I haven't attached it yet because I don't know if I should go the taping route or buy that background sealant stuff so it won't come off. Anyone use that stuff before?

Mine's taped. It looks fine and it I need to take it off - for cleaning or to move the tank - it's easy to put it back on.
