Habitat - Indoor :: Water and lighting question

I recieved my turtle in something like this with a little bit of water and half of those floating noodle things, for his basking area. From what I've read, 10 gallons of water for each inch of the turtle, front of shell to back. Mine is about one and a half inches. People keep telling me that hes fine in there, but I've been reading otherwise from this site. I have him under a lamp, that's his lighting. Im new to all of this and recieved my turtle acouple days ago from my mom. Help?

Okay your right for the 10 g per inch
I suggest you get a 30-40 gallon
The bigger the tank you get the longer itll last for your turtle
Until its too small for him

Any tips for fast removal out of that container. Can't get 30-40 tank for a little while. I've read some people said tupperware.

i beleive its a rubbermaid container or (storage container) like this http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=63080-315-FG2215CPDIM and its not just this site that has the 10gal per inch its all of them and some even say you need 30% more for decor u put in ur tank (if u put a lot in)

You can get a rubber maid stock tank for a hardware store

I put him in a big bowl time being. Have no idea what I could use for a basking area to hold him over.

You can pick up a rubbermaid storage container (20 gallons to start) at walmart or target and use that.

I started out like you. my mom bought me two turtles in a really small container just like the ones in your pic. i started out badly with nothing. I got them a small 10 gallon to start and a basic lamp like you. Just try your best, save up money and get your parents to pitch in once and a while and by the time you know it you'll have all the essentials.

one tip for fast removal is a basic plastic storage container that you might find around your house. Just make sure its of adequate size.
