General Care Discussion :: Q: How crazy are you?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri Jan 05, 2007 2:10 pm   Q: How crazy are you?

I like to write short little questionnaires. Especially when I have a tight deadline that I'm behind on.

How Crazy Are You?

1. You walk into a room to see your turtle(s) basking. Normally, your turt jumps in the water when he sees you. This time, he seems to be watching, but hasn't jumped yet. What do you do?
A. Smile, and go about your business.
B. Jump up and down and scream for joy.
C. Walk slowly, quietly, and avert your eyes.
D. Leave. There are plenty of other things you can do in other rooms.

2. It's feeding time in your tank. Your turtle doesn't seem to want his normal food. Do you:
A. Come back in a few minutes, knowing he'll eat it once you're out of the room.
B. Cry, beg then light yourself on fire to show him how sad he hurts you.
C. Offer every other food you can think of.
D. Rush to the vet without even calling first--this is an emergency!

3. Your turtle isn't basking as much as usual. What is your first thought?
A. "Perhaps the basking temperature isn't high enough."
B. "WHY GOD WHY????"
C. "Maybe he's outgrown this one. I'll go buy a bigger one."
D. "Maybe he can't get on it for some reason. I better go build a ramp of plexiglass and attach it with aquarium glue and maybe also add some more plants for more privacy."

4. You buy a new turtle friend. Within minutes, the new turtle is fluttering at your "old" turtle. What do you do?
A. Keep an eye on them for signs of aggression.
B. Sleep, eat, and stay in the room for several days so you can keep an eye on them.
C. Write many posts a day to the RES forum detailing every move they make and ask for analyses.
D. Begin building a nesting area. Find homes for the future babies.

5. If your turtle could talk to you, what would he say?
A. "Hey, man, just chillin' like Dylan here."
B. "People want to harm you. You'll be safer in my tank."
C. "Hey you with the big head! What's on the menu?"
D. "I'm sorry. You can never do enough to make me happy."

SCORING:

Mostly A's: Answering this questionnaire is about as nutty as you get. Lucky for your turtle! You're one laidback dude. Your turtle has taught you much, young cricket!
Mostly B's: Wow. You're not just crazy about your turtle, you're just crazy. Congratulations. This kind of crazy takes years to master. Just please... find a home for your turtle before you're locked up, hmm?
Mostly C's: You've got a bad case of the turtle crazies. Luckily, you're only crazy with turtle love! It's a wonderful way to be! Chances are your turtle loves you just as much. But that doesn't mean you aren't kinda crazy.
Mostly D's: You on the verge of the crazies. No, not the turtle crazies. The REAL crazies. Go ask your turtle if you can have control of your life back. Don't be surprised if he says no.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What are you? Sadly, I'm closest to a D!

I have two setups for turtles who have two totally different personalities. For each question, I would have several different responses, based on how each one acts.

Flutterby, was it you who introduced me to the idea of being a "big head?" There was a post when I first started in which someone wrote something about "Big Head" coming into the room. Since then, my fiance and I refer to ourselves as such all the time. (that's right--not just around the turts!) Thought it was so funny!

I do believe it was Grey Goose who coined the term "the Big Head." I also love the term and have asked my turtles if big head is making them nervous.
