I wanted to know how you can tell when the female is trying to find a nesting area and what the symptoms are. I've just noticed that lately my new female has been eatting like every veggie I put in the tank. I just wonder if she is eatting for more then just her if you know what I mean.

I haven't had to plan for this yet, but from what I understand, one of the biggest clues is aggressively trying to get out of the tank. Also, you can often feel the eggs infront of the hind legs. They may feel like grapes.

A female that's gravid is actually more likely to lose her appetite, not increase it. How warm is the water and basking area? (Warmth increases the appetite.)

Wouldnt like an external basking/nesting area work here pretty well? Or do you need a big area like i've seen pictures of?

also, i have read and been told that they will bask a lot more than usual to try to keep the eggs warm.. correct me if I'm wrong...

Hmmm... these are very interesting facts. I will keep a watch on her to see if she is doing any of the above things yall have mentioned. So far she has done none of these things yet. I'm betting it is the warmth that is probably increasing both of their appetites. Any veggie I put on my veggie clip they end up eatting it all but I'm assume thats a good thing.
