Hello All,

We are new to having new RES turtles! :)

We have named them Clark and Lois (Superman/Smallville) We are huge Superman Fans and We Love Smallville!! :P

As you can see this is some of the activity, we have noticed them doing!!

We asked the gentleman who we bought our turtles from which was male and female (He stated to us the RES with the darker shell is the male and the RES with the lighter shell is the female)

Yesterday, he bit her in her left foot, on her tail and on her head twice) OUCH!! She now has a small white bump by her eye. I am thinking that is where he bit her.

Unfortunately, we have this small temporary home for them and we are going to get them a tank.

She keeps basking a lot and a lot but we haven't noticed her eating.

He just is always active and trying to find a way out of the bowl.

Any suggestions if she is possibly sick?? or is it just that we need to go ahead and buy them a tank and more area to solve the solution?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

SuperGirlC with Clark and Lois!!!

What you have them in is what we call "death bowls". The name itself is self-explainatory due to the deaths caused.

Its great that you're going to get them a tank BUT... if there is aggression between them it could be because of the lack of space for them to move around. Its better for you to get a rubbermaid container with a basking area (plus lighting), a water heater, and thermometers for your basking area and water, even if its temporary.

As for eating, they are probably still getting used to their new environment which could take several days.

plus why waste 30 or 40 dollars or even more on a tank, when you can buy a nice spacious 50 gallon rubbermaid container at k-mart for 10 bucks!!

remember that a water heater is a must!

i did the mistake of not getting them one and i had to battle with respitory infection which is fatal, thank god both my little guys healed.cold temps can cause repitory infections.

get a good filter too beause turtles are realy messy and the cleaner the water, the better!

Welcome to the forum! Your little turtles are absolutely adorable!

There are a lot of things you need to know to keep your turtles happy and healthy. A lot. You should start by doing some reading on this site. There's a lot of good stuff in the general information sections, then the "stickies" at the top of each forum have more detail.

After you do some reading you'll have a better idea what to do. Then just ask away - the people on here are very helpful. They helped me tremendously and now I've got a real good setup for my little guy.
