General Care Discussion :: Taking in a second turtle..

I'm taking in a second Red-eared slider tomorrow and I feel like a parent whose expecting a baby. Sure, I have a choice in this case. I don't mind taking in the second turtle but I can't help but take into account their longevity. I'm basically doubling a life-long commitment and that's the part of what scares me.

The second turtle (Squirtle) will reisde in the same room as Paffie. Both are female. They will not reside in the same tank for at least 90 days and they probably will never reside in the same glass aquarium unless it's a custom build. The turtles will reside in seperate tanks in my bed room but eventually will be moved to a room with a stock tank or probably two because I'm paranoid about them getting injured.


So, they'll be fine basking in opposite corners of the room, right? Will they get jealous if I give one mroe attention than the other or if I feed one before the other?

Sounds like you are planning ahead properly. They will not likely get jealous, I think they just want food rather than attention.

Preiview: I was given a seven year old slider (I don't see any red) - one who originated on Canal street as a baby the size of a silver dollar, a 20-gallon long glass aquarium, a turtle topper, and a ceramic socketed light fixture with a CCFL UVB bulb. Did the previous keeper even use a heat bulb of any kind?

Not all RES have red... Some have orange or yellow.
