So, I have a female RES, about 3.5 years old.

She's been in a 55 gallon for a few well over two of thos years. I have a deep sand substrate. For some reason, years ago when I set it up, I had dropped a few of the Fluval rings in as decoration.

This evening, when I went down to the basement to feed her, I noticed that she had dug into the sand much deeper than normal, and one of the bits of biomedia was dead center. I fed her and the fish and watched for a bit. After eating and searching all around to see if she had missed anything, she went over to the crater in the sand and started acting like I have never seen.

She'd dig a bit, right next to the biomedia, then she'd hold her front feet in a V in front of her face, upper sides facing out, and shake them at the piece of biomedia, sometimes just barely touching it with her claws.

She'll pause and repeat it. The body language doesn't seem aggressive, more excited and curious.

Anyone seen anything like this with a female? Is my girl developing some weird fetish with a piece of ceramic?

Haha, I've known a few RES who had favorite "rocks". I think she's just very curious about it :)
