Emergency care for baby RES! help!!?

hi my baby RES (body4cm) has not eaten since i bought him (been 9 days). during first few days has strength to flip over when i lay him upside down but now he no longer has strength. he blows bubbles from mouth when submerged under water. he rubs both of his eyes with his front legs and doesnt open them unless he is in water. his eyes look puffy. today when i put him in my eyes his head seemed to jerk slightly..

Your turtle is probably sick and should be seen by a Veterinarian. Unfortunately its all to common.

What have you tried to feed him? Where did you get him from? What's the rest of his setup like?

I hear soaking in a 50/50 carrot juice/water (80 degree's) for 30 minutes will help.

I think chances are the turtle was sick straight from the store or breeder. Baby turtles not eating, blowing bubbles and swollen eyes seems to be pretty common. I have read threads about this too many times to remember in my 3 years on this site. Unfortunately a lot of them don't make it. I think home remedies just prolong the inevitable. A sick baby/hatchling should be seen my a vet if at all possible. Soaking in carrot juice might entice it to eat but brobably would do little for the other symptoms.

I agree with Kansasslider. Aside from soaks of diluted Pedialyte (for electrolytes), I'm not sure what else is really safe. Some crumbs of pellets are also worth a adding for a little one not eating.

I'm just saying there are a million and one home remedies but nothing works as good as a visit to the vet. And while trying such home remedies the turtle could actually get worse. Just out of curiosity who wrote that advice?

Does it bother anyone else Kenny never responded? I might add to much vitamin A is toxic. So feeding carrots should be limited to 1-2 times a week. I still don't know what to make of soaking your turtle in carrot juice even after doing research on the subject.

A lot of vets seem to like to give vitamin injections too., it really is something that is overdone.
Not sure about Kenny, I'll have to think there was only bad news after he posted.

I was thinking the same thing about his turtle.
