General Care Discussion :: Caught a RES

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So, here is the story: I'm leaving my school, which has a pond and turtles, but I never see them basking. So, I see a head near the edge of the pond, and take a closer look. It's a RES. I took of my shoes and walked up to it, I caught it. I never thought I'd end up catching it. But I did!

Since the all to well known issue of RES being invasive, and catching them being the only chance of me having a RES, I decided to keep him.

Temporarily he is in a 10 gallon, but by the end of the week, he will be in a 75 gallon. He is 6 inches SCL. Pics soon

P.S- How long until eating?

Eating shouldn't take long. Was this a natural pond? How big is it? Is there a school policy about it? They have a pretty wide native range, so I don't know if this was a good idea.

The pond is not a natural pond. It smells, and its more of a brown cesspool with turtles. There is no school policy. He is 6 inches SCL. This is in Florida, where they are invasive

OK, thanks for the info. If that's the case, they should really drain that pond or make it into a school project to revitalize it.

They use it for cardboard boat races. People just release turtles into it or they find their way on their own. It has a string algae problem.
