General Care Discussion :: Is my RES's shell shedding or is this a problem

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Brand new RES owners here. We have a happy turtle with a good set-up (filter, UVB, heat lamp, basking area, etc), but recently his shell started getting these silver/white areas on them. I did some research and I think his shell might be shedding, but wanted to make sure - we don't want him to get sick (shell rot, etc). I don't think it could be because we take care of him, but want to make sure. By the way, the small tank pictured is NOT his tank - that's his feeding tank.

Might be shedding, but its a bit early to know. I'd also cut back on the pellets a bit, his seams are a bit big.

What do you mean his seams are too big? What would you recommend we feed him to supplement pellets? Lettuce? He's obviously just a hatchling and we're new to this, so not up to speed on the proper diet. Thanks.

The scutes are a bit farther apart, so the seams look big or thicker. This is an indication of fast growth because the newer scute have not filled in yet. What are you feeding him now?
