General Care Discussion :: Male attacks female constantly

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I've had my RES ( Ike and Tina Turtle) for a few years now but in the last few weeks Ike has been constantly trying to bite Tina. Sometimes he will suceed and grab her by the back of the neck. I've tried separating them, but when I reintroduce Ike to the tank he attacks Tina again. Is there anything I can try short of getting a separate setup for Ike or giving him up?

thanks

Sounds like they will need permanent separate tanks. Just because they got along before, doesn't mean they will anymore.
One RES named "The Hulk" (named by my kids. Lol ) 4 1/2" SCL
Rescued July 10, 2014 from a waste water treatment facility.

Unfortunately, this type of behavior does not subside. You can look into a much larger tank and dividing it.

Well you did name your turtles Ike and Tina and you expected them to get along :-)
