General Care Discussion :: slimmy-ish water

Hi guys,

I've finally got a whole new 20g tank and setup with a MarineLand C220 filter, a basking lamp and a UVB lamp and a water heater that keeps it between 75 and 78degrees. Since relocation to the new tank I've only fed her green pellets or dandelions (she really likes those). When putting together her new tank I only used "drinking/spring" water and I washed the 1inch river rock stones before putting them in

Anyways, when I put my hand in the water there feels to be a slimmy-ish to the water?

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Not sure what it could be, is the tank filled to the top? Is the surface being agitated?

It's a lite slimmy-ish and maybe only on the surface (I'm not certain of that). The turtle is perfectly happy, I guess, he seems to be doing all regular turtle stuff.

The turtle did just go through a shedding before I switched him out his tank from a 10g to a 20g tank. All new stuff (mostly 1inch river rock stones) in the new tank was washed before putting it in.

The tank is not filled to the top, it's about 2/3 of the way. The filter's (MarineLand C220) water return does not break the water surface. That makes too much noise and keeps the kids awake at night.

I think the reason Steve asked that is because you can get a protein slick on the surface--various organic bits being broken down in the water, some of it floats to the top.

You don't have to get noise with the water return to combat this. Just point the filter return so it ripples the top of the water. That should be enough to break the protein slick up and won't make any noise.
