General Care Discussion :: Lump on the Side of the Head

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Nov 05, 2013 3:34 pm   Lump on the Side of the Head

I have a female slider about a year old that has developed a lump behind and beneath the eye. There is no obvious wound or discoloration and its mobility is so far undisturbed. She is fed pellets, meat and worms and has a good appetite although I am concerned about the lump affecting her ability to eat.

Has anyone encountered this before?

It may be an abscess. Check out this thread for some discussion and pictures:

Thank you for the reply. After posting I did some research. I didn't realize that abscesses were so common. I will add antibiotic to the food for a few days and see how she does before seeing a vet.

I would like to advise against adding the antibiotic on your own (unless you already work in reptile medicine?). If you use the incorrect dose, your turtle's health will only get worse!
