Tractor Supply Company is having a Facebook contest for rescue groups. The grand prize is a $5000 grant. To vote on the entries, you have to be a Facebook user. You can vote on the entry once per 24 hour period through August 25th. You have to click the "vote" button at the bottom, not just "like" it.
There are a lot of wonderful groups in the running, so if you see another group you like, or several, you can vote for more than one group per day (I found out about the contest from somoene that does photography for both MATTS and Lilly Ponds Foal Rescue). Mostly I'm happy that this is a chance to get out the word on sliders. As far as I know, the Mid-Atlantic Turtle & Tortoise Society has the only turtle entry so far and the oldest contestant. Sandy the 47 year old red-eared slider was adopted this summer.
If you're on Facebook and want to help out, including spreading the message about the care needed for red-eared sliders, please visit Sandy's entry at
https://offerpop.com/FacebookContestEnt ... 69&rest2=0
Please share her story, too, so we can find more homes for unwanted or displaced sliders or help others from becoming unwanted by giving keepers ideas for caring for thier turtle.
Her picture also shows you what you can do with a 300 gallon stock tank. Yes, that's a dwarf bald cypress tree in the middle of the tank. Feel free to share.
Thank you for looking.
