General Care Discussion :: Need help finding a light-timer?

Hi guys,

I've been manually switching the basking lights on and off every day, but I'm looking for something automatic so that my neighbours don't need to worry about it when I'm out of town. I really don't know what to look for. I glanced at some in Home Depot, but its seemed as though they may not have been designed to switch the lights on AND off every day.

Can anybody recommend something? Perhaps link me to a website?

This type will function every day (each knob represents an hour). Maybe try other hardware stores and show this picture around. And you can always try ebay and other online pet supply stores. Wait. let me check the links.

Most timers work on a 24 hour cycle... so the one above and similar ones will work. There are also seasonal ones, which use a light sensor... you don't want one of those.

What about if my light has an on off clicker on it? If it's on and I unplug it and plug it back in it's off, so I'm worried that it won't be "on" when the timer switches back on.

There are electronic ones (usually as a multi outlet surge protector) that you can program. If you unplug the ones similar to the one pictured, then the timer stopped when it was unplugged. They usually have a switch that disables the timer functionality (the one above does).

Or if you want to go really high tech, you can get an aquarium controller like the Digital Aquatics Reef Keeper Lite or the Apex Neptune. These type of devices are programmable from the controller or from your computer and can control much more than just the lights.
