General Care Discussion :: turtles getting along?

Just got a question guys. One of my res's is a lot bigger than the other and I'm not sure if they're getting along.

First off my little res can't eat fast enough to get anything when I feed my turtles (big one's a pig) so I have to take the bigger one out when I feed them so the little one can have its time to eat.

Secondly my turtles are pretty young yet it seems like they're trying to mate. The bigger turtles doing a mating dance I saw all over YouTube, he kinda of jiggles his claws in the littles ones face and chases it around, and my little turtle just tries to get away (playing hard to get? lol)

Thirdly when they sleep it's usually on top of eachother or one puts its head or claw on the others shell, which makes it look like they actually do get along.

Anywho I think I'm going to see about getting a 50gal soon, I think the size will help a bit and keep them more busy than they are right now in the 20gal.

Anyone see any of this being a problem?

They don't really fight. My bigger turtle accidently big the little ones claw once in a rush to eat the food first and there was another time he bit the little one for no reason, but that doesn't happen like ever now and I check to see if there's any damage to my turtles a lot so I'm sure they're ok there.

I wish I could get that sale but there's only 1 pet shop here and its just a small independent one. Small town :\ Might end up paying 200 for a 50gal

Check on the website if there are any in neighboring towns, it would be worth the drive, if so.

Yeah check any towns around you driving an hour or two is better then spending 200 dollars on a 55 gallon. The sale ends July 17th so you got some time to check around.
If there is some accidents like the one with the claw then thats fine if the other turtle does not fight back.
And if he bites him for no reason make sure they don't do it again and it does not turn into a big fight.

I don't think there's even any neighbouring towns, and I don't have a license. There's a Wallmart like an hour away which probably sells stuff a lot cheaper though, I got my filter there for 40$ and the original one I got here was like 90$ and was only for a 10gal tank!!

You could try a large rubbermaid container (a clear one) the appearance isnt that bad at all

you could get a 80gal for under 30$

Yeah a rubbermaid or a stock tank can do the job well.

Don't feel like you HAVE to have an aquarium. I have a friend who has three turtles in a large stock tank and it actually looks pretty nice in his dining room. You're only limited by your creativity!

Isn't a stock tank still a tank? I can't find any plastic tubberware containers that are perfectly clear, nicely shaped or scratch resistant.

A stock tank is a large, durable, black plastic tank. It can still get scratched (not a big deal) though they metal ones too.
You won't find any large storage containers that are perfectly clear or scratch resistant. They'll have a rectangular shape. There are some that are close to being clear, but only objects that are close to the plastic will be.

In the game of eating the biggest usually gets the most food. And yes, they are little pigs. The fluttering is done in the intimidation game. The big one is letting the little one know who is boss and don’t forget it!! If the big one doesn’t mind it, all is ok. Sometimes they will sleep and bask together and all is well , sometimes not. Aquariums, stock tanks, or tupperware... Now of them are scratch resistant. Also, I don't think tupperware containers are "perfectly clear" and I guess it depends on what you think "nice shaped" means.

Honestly, do what is best for the turts. Stock tanks are just big black tubs, but they can provide privacy for your turtles and you could decorate the outside if you want.
