General Care Discussion :: Am I doing this right? or overfeeding my turtle...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Thanks for the advice josephkr!

I do have an update...

since my tax refund, I purchased a 90 gallon filter by Marineland, Biscuit has a waterfall! I haven't put sand in, still working on the idea.... Our 65 gal tank is pretty full of water now, I will try to post some pics.
Got rid of the fluorescent tube, just have basking and uvb bulbs now, that took some getting used to.
Purchased a 10 gallon tank, keeping feeder fish in it along with 3 pleckos. Saves me time going to the store, plus I can ration the fish a little bit better and I know what the fish have been eating this way, have 12 at a time in this new tank.
have not bought a water heater, though I probably should just to have one, sine Petsmart is clearancing them for half off. Next payday....
Have river rock at the bottom of his tank, bought him a Turtle Bone, but he doesn't like it. Also, bought him some Anacris (sp) the water plants, he ate it overnight, so I guess I will have to buy more.
Think that's it! Oh, one last thing, got rid of the screen on my tank, cat fell in within the hour, lol... she didn't drown thankfully, but she didn't have her stubborn streak cured either. She keeps trying to get up on top, I don't think she knows that the screen is gone for good...

Got rid of the florescent, cause without the screen and with the cats, I was concerned that it would fall in the water

Another habitat pic, this is the filter and his lily pad, might take the pad back, cause he won't use it

I think you should have the uvb directly above the basking spot. Other than that, everything looks nice! :)

That is an issue I noticed as well, I told my husband to put the lights together, went to sleep, woke up to this! Only asked him to handle the lights cause it would be easier for him as he is taller. Another problem is the brackets are the ones that stick to the tank, so now I can't move it... :(

I think those brackets were discussed before, if I recall replacements could be picked up on ebay. Biscuit looks very good!

Thanks steve, I got the ones that stick to the side of the tank, not realizing that my other half would put them on so far apart. Have the uvb pointed towards the basking area,.
thinking about removing bracket and putting it back on with an apoxy, any thoughts on that?

I wouldn't recommend it. You want to be very careful with lighting equipment, and I think what ever the bracket uses should be the minimum.

The bracket came with a peel and stick adhesive.... I don't think I can move it without putting some more adhesive on it. That's why I mentioned apoxy
