I am using the same Filstar filter I've been using for 6-7 years with the same standard media I have always used. I am also using a smaller Fluval internal filter to help with the load (just because I have it and might as well use it). I never had this issue with this tank and these filters, but I have had issues like this in another tank I had with African Clawed frogs. It took close to 2 months to cycle.
The good news is that I am beginning to see some progress. When I do a partial water change, it brings some extra clarity to the water. Before it would just get really cloudy again within a couple of days. Now it seems to be holding the new level and remaining less cloudy. I think I'm am probably 1-2 weeks away.
I must have totally blown out the tank and had to start from scratch. I think the various early water changes just slowed down the process.
(by the way, this started sometime in late August so it took 3 months to get the point where it's improving)
