General Care Discussion :: Scutes and Shedding Them

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I think her initial check was through the microscope. I know that the vet who took care of our dogs (different vet, called her first, she doesn't do turtles, so she sent me to the place I go now) had a lab to send stuff to.

All right, we are quickly approaching the 3 week mark of putting on the silver stuff. He looks better but it hasn't gone away. A call to the vet tomorrow and then we go from there.

Well I have an appt tomorrow at 8:30 in the morning. They've ordered more ointment but I'm hoping we have a better solution as I can't imagine constantly picking him up has been helping. He really dislikes being handled.

All righty. The vet says to stick with the silver stuff and that with any luck, he'll be fine after this tub of ointment. If for some reason this tub doesn't get rid of it, she says that we'll have to do more tests and see what is going on. She was encouragd that he's gained an oz and that the spots look much better, so she doesn't think we'll have to worry. Still she's at least laying it out for me.

Thanks guys for being supportive. I really appreciate it. :)

The main thing about fungus is the way it impedes normal shedding. By any chance, did she mention the type of fungal strain this is?

Well the good thing was, was that she could see that some of his scutes were trying to shed which they weren't before, so it was definitely a good thing. She didn't mention the type and to be honest, I didn't think to ask. She was squeezing me in before heading to surgery.

All righty, we're ending our second tub of Silver ointment and he's about 85% of the way there. I have a call into the vet and hopefully when she gets in tomorrow, she'll have some answers for me. :)

The vet says I can come pick up another tub of Silver ointment today. She hopes that this one does the trick. If not, she wants to see him. I'll try to get pics tonight or tomorrow of what he looks like now and hopefully that gives a better idea of what has been going on. :) Thanks Steve.

This is what they look like now. Definitely better. If you get up close, it looks like its breaking up.

Looks much better. Glad you took care of it sooner before it spread.
