General Care Discussion :: The day has come...

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Jan 26, 2016 11:58 pm   Re: The day has come...

Thank you all! I will start to build it on sunday cause thats the only time i can get a ride.
Took squirt to a vet since she got shell rot :( She was doing PERFECT until she outgrew her dock.
One more question, if i was to use tile, how would i make a ramp for my turtle to get on?
Also would i need to drill a couple of holes on the ramp so the water from my turtle can be drained off the tile?
I ask this because the nearest hardware store that sells the lighting diffuser is around 1hr away from me.
Weird how the same chain of store 4 mins from my home does not carry it...

Can't the store near you get light difuser for you? They should be able to. I would think you would want to use a non glazed tile. No holes needed as it would absorb some water and the heat from the basking bulb would evaporate it. I'm not sure how you would attach a ramp but I'm sure its been done and maybe Steve can give you a link.

I used ceramic tile. To make it un level (so the bottom of the shell can dry off) I siliconed some smaller broken pieces to the top. For a ramp, maybe a piece of acrylic (you can sandwich one end between tiles). I've got a few tiles stacked, so a ramp isn't necessary.

Thank you all! I should be able to get a ride today, so i will go with the lighting difuser as it seems easier to make a ramp out of.
Thanks again! Really love this site :)

Also (again) can i put like repticarpet on the lighting difuser to make it more comfy?
It seems my turtle's shell is irritated from the rough surface of the exo terra basking dock, i can only imagine how bad lighting dufuser will be
Thanks

You need the actual, full image address to embed images:

The platform is looking good, but how is the reptile carpet? I'm not really a fan of them in a turtle tank.

lolol on the video, I could not watch in all with the typical North Western British Accent which is annoying lol. Accents in England if you listen closely are similar to accents in the USA, different based on region.......Picking on Steve being a New Yorker a bit since New Yorkers can not to pronounce their " R's" a lot lol. much.. Same with her North West British accent . Sorry Steve had to say that lol. I am a British citizen but half American by blood and I have family in North West England. Her video in her accent did my head in (as the brits say) resulting in me shutting off the video . The great thing is the platform area in which you obtained knowledge from in the video, had you create a wonderful platform that I see above. Frankly, I am not keened on reptile carpet and with previously working in a vet clinic, I seen medical issues arise from it.
