the only thing that makes me think it MIGHT be shedding is that all the white is around the scutes, not in the middle of any.

but then i think it might be a fungus forming around all the scutes?

ok. yes i'm trying to convince my mom to let me take it to a vet, but she think's i'm overreacting.

i don't blame her though, i thought my turtle was dying because his shell wasn't as bright as when we first got it...haha oops!

and i am going to get betadine and novalsan tonight just incase it's shell rot.

oh and underwater they are the same bright white.

should i dry dock her? maybe just put in enough water to cover the underside of her shell but not the top?

so we got the novalsan and i read to remove any of the white spots before applying it..

and so removing the white spots..the scutes are definietely peeling..but it does NOT look normal!! i'll be taking a pic once my camera is charged.

and it's not just one scute, its a couple. i just don't see how a hatchling of less than 1/2 inches can start shedding scutes!! i am getting really nervous here!

i was peeling it off and it just looked awful!!

now my turtle is not a RES but a florida red belly...do you think they could be differernt?

and underneath the peeled scutes is all soft too, and it seems like her whole shell could peel off if i tried!

but on the bright side, she's acting really normal and eating fine.

I wouldn't peel it off. Turtle shells shed all on their own. If you start peeling off the layers, you could damage the shell.

I say just brush the shell with a soft tooth brush then apply the medication.

She's very young to be shedding.. But i guess it's not a problem because young turtles always do that.. How old is he/she?? If its a shell rot then her shell must be soft, those peeled scutes should smell, theres some red spot or brown.. Mine's look like that one but no symptoms of shell rot
