It really was pneumonia.

My parents wouldn't let me take him to the vet

I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry to hear it. I can only imagine how helpless you must have felt. :( But take some comfort in knowing that you tried to help him.

i'm so sorry...

i know how you feel. my last turt had really bad shell rot when i got him and i didn't know it. it got to the point where he was bleeding from his shell and i begged my parents to let me take him to the vet...but they didn't think it was worth it. he died also...but sometimes it is a learning experience. it's hard but you'll pull through!

best of luck.

i'm not understanding the mindset of these people. many people will take their cat or dog to the vet in a heartbeat if it coughs funny, but think taking a turtle to a vet is a waste of money? my boyfriend's the same way, he can't understand why i get concerned about my little ones. how does them being a turtle make their health any less valuable?

There are a variety of reasons for this, but one that came to mind immediately after reading is that cats and dogs (especially dogs), cost a lot more than a turtle, so I guess to those people, preserving a life of something worth more is more important than something that is cheaper and can easily be replaced.

''what we obtain too cheaply we esteem to lightly" that kind of thing?

i realise that freedom and animals is apples and oranges, but it seems to fit.

See, I don't get that at all... yea maybe they're cheap to start out with but once you get to know their little personalities- their worth is priceless!! I wish the parents of these younger owners would realize that!!

I'm sorry for your loss, zilch! :(
