General Care Discussion :: Male and Female RES Living Together

Hello again, after doing some research online and checking my turtles (much to their dismay im sure) i am reasonably sure i have one male and one female RES. Im not sure if the female is of egg-laying age or not, but when she is, is there anything i should do in the event of her laying, i would assume, fertilized eggs? I barely have enough room for the 2 RES i have, and even tho it would be alot of fun, i couldnt care for a whole bunch of babies. Is there any way i could keep that from happening other than seperating them?

Separating them is the best way, but keep in mind that the female can still lay unfertilized eggs even without the male being present.

At one time, my Sheba had a little male companion (Nelson) that I bought to keep her company. She laid so many %$#* eggs (sometimes 3 times a year) that I had to separate them & give Nelson away to one of my friends!!!! And even after he was gone, she continue to lay eggs for several years. It was messy & annoying.

She hasn't laid eggs in 6 yrs now and I am soooo glad!!!!
