Lets get this straight i think that carbon is a straight up scam- not with what it does, but the price.
If i calculate it:
4 (my filter takes 4 carbon's a pop) x 12 (months) = 48 (total carbon needed)
It costs me 12$ (without tax), with tax= 13.80$ for a box of 3. Dang fluval, making us buy 2 boxes at once.
48/3= 16 boxes i need to buy
16 X 13.80= 220.80$. I dont want to spend that (even if it seems like nothing, if you think about it, it seems like a waste)
TO THE POINT: Can i convert my filter into Sponge and Biomax only? Forget the carbon, ammonia remover and purigen cause i had a bad experience with it.
Ive heard biomax is very good (when its established). Particles would still be trapped by the sponges but the bacteria would lower nitrates (says the box).
And the great part it is never needs to be replaced
!But if i must still buy carbon i will. I have the money, but just wish to save it for better things, like bigger and nicer tanks!
