I have been hand feeding Lightning (strawberry and tomato pieces) and he does the same thing. At first, he would just snatch the food but now he's more curious and seems to realize the food is being held by something (me) and his curiosity gets the best of him and he just sniffs like crazy, mouth firmly closed.
He is noisy! When I walk into the room, if I don't immediately go up to his tank, he starts pushing rocks around and making a huge racket! I can't believe how loud he can be. Jeesh. He is actively trying to escape. You can almost see the wheels turning as he stands on his back feet and studies his ramp from below, then he climbs on the ramp and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s as high as he can, then inevitably topples off his perch. This goes on and on...
