General Care Discussion :: Bugs in the water

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Aug 30, 2015 1:50 pm   Bugs in the water

I have currently had my turtle for a month now and I have cleaned his tank twice in that month. This morning when I was getting ready for work I could see little things swimming around in his water. I live in Colorado so its a pretty dry climate. We don't have tons of bugs but I'm worried for my little turtle. Does anyone have any idea what these little bugs swimming around in his water could be and are they harmful. He hasn't eaten in the past four days and hasn't been very active could this be the result of the bugs in his water. Regardless I'm going home today and cleaning his tank again I will keep you guys informed.

Are they like worms? It could be fly larvae. You also need to have some water surface agitation to discourage bugs from laying eggs.

Ya they look like little white worms. I cleaned the tank and I have a water fall filtration system I guess I will see if I get them again. My turtle still acting pretty lethargic though. Everything in his tank is good. Water temperature basking area. I don't know if hes just the Eeyore of turtles or if hes sick. He started eating a little bit again. I was debating going to go buy him a friend today maybe he is just lonely lol.

Has he been pooping? Adding another turtle is usually never a good idea.
