i am seeing a lot of topics about fungal infections so let me ask is this a preventable thing or am i destined to deal with it at some point my res does bask quite alot if nobody is watching him so he gets a lot of bask time with his heat lamp

Yes it's preventable. It's also aggressive, so even with precautions, it can still happen. At the very first sign, it needs to be treated or it will spread quickly.
