Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I am a new Red Eared Slider pet owner, and I am doing everything right, meaning she has the perfect set up. My turtle is about 1 year old, and she is roughly 4 and a half inches. I used to feed her every OTHER day, and I am assuming that she is over weight now because she has excess skin on her neck, and her arms have extra skin as well. :( I am really scared and nervous, so I started feeding her every other 2 days with a half leaf of Romaine lettuce, and some Reptomin pellets. She hasn't lost too much weight, but I am starting to get concerned. I am treating her to the best of my ability, and I could really use some advice, tips, or anything on this topic. Please help!

Calm down! Your doing just fine recognizing you were over feeding in the first place. Give yourself a pat on the back. Now, Reptomin isn't the best pellet to feed. Its not Bad but there are better ones. I like Omega One. Also frozen krill as a treat is great. See if she will eat carrots thin sliced. Or maybe red leaf luttuce. Feed pellets about every other day but cut back. They say feed the size of the head. I would say you can cut that in half. Your turtle will beg no matter how much you feed it so the key is not to give in. I hope this helps. Your doing fine. I would wrather see a fat turtle than a malnourished one. :-)

-I will upload a picture momentrily @butterflygirl921

-What kind of food do you recommend? Like pellet kind. I have been feeding her a half leaf of Romaine lettuce now with a side of 4 pellets. And then once or twice a week I'll throw in some mini krill or baby shrimp, not a lot, but just a little. What other veggies could I provide her? Actually, what kind of diet would you recommend for me because I feed her every other day or every other 2 days. I always feed her a half leaf of Romaine lettuce, and 4 Reptomin pellets. @Kansasslider

Unfortunately it will not let me upload a picture because it says the file is too big  I've tried it first on my camera, and then I tried my phone, but it still says its too big. Sorry! I really wish you can see her though so that you can get a better perspective.

Red leaf lettuce is good. I like Omega One pellets and also Hikari wheat germ to help in shedding. I dust my pellets with Repti Calcium. You can feed greens everyday. Have you read about what food to give on the Home page? Click on nutrition on the top of this page.
